We will be using the stairs as a means of demonstrating the natural beauty of real wood grown in the Northeastern United States. The stairs will feature fourteen different varieties of wood, highlighted on the kick plate part of the stairs. This will include Pine, Spruce, Hemlock, Tamarack, Yellow Birch, White Birch, Sugar Maple, Red Maple, White Ash, Beech, White Oak, Poplar, Basswood, and Cherry.
Our master timber frame designer Ed Levin will be adding his talent to the design of the stairs, guard rails along the upper walkway and what we call the "crow's nest" lookout area up in the Sugar House section of the roof.
